Post the retention of players in the Indian Premier League (IPL), almost every player who was retained by their respective franchise took to social media to thank the owners and management for showing faith. It is no news that IPL is the most lucrative T20 league among all and while that is a big motivation to give their best, the players also look forward to spending so long in India and giving their best in the tournament because of the emotional connect with the team, the devoted fans and for the love of the game.
Among the 17 players retained in the retention, there was David Warner, the Australian vice-captain and the Sunrisers Hyderabad captain. In 2016, he led the side to their maiden title and gave an excellent fight to the teams in the 2017 edition as well. He was retained by SRH along with Bhuvneshwar Kumar. After knowing that he got retained, he displayed his excitement with a message on Instagram and Twitter.
This is what David Warner posted:
Since SRH paid 12 crores to Warner to retain him, his Aussie teammate Joe Burns came up with a funny reply on the Instagram post. Burns was indirectly saying that the Test vice-captain is lucky as he got 12 crores from the retention. To that, the 31-year-old had a perfect reply to Joe Burns.
Below is Joe Burns comment on the post:
The joke probably didn’t go down well with the seasoned campaigner considering it indicated that all of this was extremely financially beneficial. And, it is highly unlikely that a passionate individual such as Warner would be looking at money as the primary objective in the IPL.
So, here’s what Warner said:
The IPL auction is scheduled to take place later this month and in all probability, we will witness a major overhaul of almost all teams. The tournament will commence in April.
